Pigeon Point Lighthouse

Description

Standing 115 feet in height (or 148 feet in focal height), this is tied with Point Arena Light as the tallest lighthouse ever built on the U.S. west coast.  Constructed in 1871, its primary purpose was to guide ships sailing towards the west coast to California.  Since 2001, the tower has been closed to tourists due to the collapse of some brickwork supporting outer metal walkways atop the tower.  Nine years after the collapse, a CA state representative donated $250k to restoring the brickwork...and, five years after that, I still can't go up to the top, not even with my grappling hook crossbow.  It's going to take more than just the state throwing money at this lighthouse because they feel like doing so to fix it.

Anyway, there's also a four-house hostel founded in the 1960s just a short walk down from the peak of this coastal cliffside.
